Putney Radicals
In the years before the arrival of the railways, Putney was a place which attracted writers and revolutionary thinkers looking for a retreat from the unruly atmosphere of London. The map traces the history of the radicals – including major figures from the Romantic movement such as Mary Shelley, Henry Fuseli and Leigh Hunt – who took refuge in Putney, and highlights the part played by this area on the outskirts of London in the shaping of British culture.

The map measure 420 x 594 mm (16.5 x 23.4 inches) when open, and 148 x 210 mm (5.8 x 8.3 inches) when folded.
